Edit: Ignore me, hadn’t put the car in neutral from 5th after breaking the pulley bolts free, for I am Costanza, lord of the idiots.
Timing belt broke on the Miata and I’m getting around to fixing it after a month. Unfortunately, the crank won’t rotate by hand, so I can’t get cylinder 1 to TDC. Valve/piston contact seems horribly unlikely, so any ideas as to what may be causing the engine to not want to rotate?
First thought is that perhaps one or both of the cams are out of sync and i’ve got two valves closed stopping things up? Seems easy to rectify (rotate a cam), but this is not my area of expertise so I’m wary of getting too nuts.

If it is the valve position causing the problem couldn’t you take out the spark plugs to alleviate the issue?

Oh you can ignore me, I just realized that I never took the car out of 5th from breaking the pulley bolts free. *doh*

Ha! I wish I could say I’ve never done something like that but I have. Way too many times.

It was even the first thing I checked! Checked and thought to myself “car is in 5th, yeah that’s right” without even thinking about it.
It was not right.
